I used to have "creative blocks" all the time. It was a struggle to come up with a creative yoga sequence or theme, and it was a challenge to make art or design something new. I felt stuck, frustrated, and uninspired. It got me thinking, where does inspiration come from and how can I access more of it? I came across a podcast from Wayne Dyer and he describes inspiration to mean "in Spirit." When we are connected to Spirit - our source of universal consciousness - creativity and inspiration flow naturally and limitlessly. So, the question then becomes, how do we connect with Spirit?
What follows is a list of ways to connect with Spirit that I have practiced and found to work to re-start the stream of creativity to flow through me effortlessly.
1) Be present in nature. Observe the magic of the world in the effortless and continuous cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction.
2) Be still in meditation. Stop looking for ideas. Get out of your own way, find stillness in your mind, and allow ideas to flow naturally to you.
3) Find beings that you feel are connected to Spirit and spend time with them. This being might be a pet, a teacher, a friend, or a family member. Maybe it means listening to a podcast or reading a book by someone who you feel is connected to their source of Spirit. Feel their essence and connect with your own Spirit essence.
